Specialised somatic and IFS therapy

Discover a gentle and compassionate approach to healing and self-discovery with my specialised somatic and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. This page offers insights into these unique methods, designed to help you build a deeper connection with yourself.

Understanding somatic and IFS therapy

Somatic work and Internal Family Systems (IFS) are gentle approaches that help people understand themselves with more compassion. Somatic work involves paying attention to the connection between the mind and body. Stress, anxiety, grief, and difficult experiences can often manifest in the body as tension, exhaustion, shutdown, or overwhelm. Together, we gently notice what is happening in your body and nervous system, helping you feel more grounded, safe, and connected to yourself.

IFS is based on the idea that we all have different "parts" within us — for example, a worried part, an inner critic, a people-pleasing part, or a part that feels overwhelmed. Rather than judging or trying to get rid of these parts, we get curious about them and understand how they may have been trying to protect you. Both approaches are gentle, collaborative, and paced slowly, helping people build more self-understanding, self-compassion, and emotional safety over time.

Who benefits from specialised somatic and IFS therapy?

This work is especially suited to people wanting to go a little deeper into areas such as attachment, reparenting, parts work, Jungian-inspired exploration, shadow work, nervous-system healing, and trauma-informed self-understanding. The approach is gentle, relational, and trauma-sensitive, supporting people who may want to explore their patterns of behaviour, coping mechanisms, different inner parts of themselves or maybe are living with trauma or complex trauma to slowly build more safety, connection, and compassion within themselves.

Jules offers a more specialised strand of work through 'Creating a Home Within' — a dedicated website space exploring Somatic and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed therapy. If this kind of deeper inner work resonates with you, you are very welcome to explore the Creating a Home Within website for more information. The Website is currently under construction and will be ready soon

Your experience with somatic and IFS-informed therapy

If you come to us for Somatic or IFS-informed therapy, you do not need to know anything about these approaches beforehand, and there is no expectation to "do it right." Our work together would begin slowly and gently, with a focus on helping you feel safe, supported, and able to arrive exactly as you are. We would explore what is happening in your life at a pace that feels manageable for your nervous system and capacity.

Somatic work simply means bringing some gentle awareness to the connection between your mind, body, emotions, and nervous system. This might include noticing tension, exhaustion, anxiety, shutdown, or how your body responds to stress and emotions — always in a grounded and non-overwhelming way.

IFS (Internal Family Systems) explores the different "parts" of ourselves we all carry — for example, the inner critic, people-pleasing part, overwhelmed part, anxious part, or the part that tries to keep everything together. Rather than judging these parts, we get curious about them and their roles in your life.

I have completed and continue to undertake a range of specialised trainings and workshops in Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, trauma-informed practice, attachment work, Jungian Therapy, and nervous-system healing.

My learning has been shaped by the work of inspiring therapists, teachers, and practitioners including Gabor Maté, Lynn Fraser, Frank Anderson, Arielle Schwartz, Fran Booth, Kate Williams, Bessel van der Kolk, Scott Lyons, and Janina Fisher.

These approaches — including Polyvagal-informed understanding of the nervous system — continue to shape the way I work, helping me offer therapy that is compassionate, body-aware, trauma-sensitive, and grounded in understanding how our experiences can affect both our nervous systems and our relationships with ourselves.
